Ernesto Javier Chevantón (born August 12, 1980 in Juan Lacaze , Uruguay ; actually Ernesto Javier Chevantón Espinosa ) is a former Uruguayan football player .

From the 1996/97 season to the end of the 2000/01 season, he is in the first division team Danubios. During this period, Chevantón has recorded 55 league games with 50 goals scored. Other sources cite 62 games and 53 goals for him at Danubio. In 2000 he was standing in the service of Danubio with 33 goals top scorer of the Primera División Uruguay. In the 2000/01 season he moved from the Uruguayan club Danubio to Italy to US Lecce , where he played 88 games and scored 45 goals. In 2004 Chevantón went to France in Ligue 1 for AS Monaco . After just two years, after strong performances, he moved to Spain for Sevilla FC . The transfer fee of nine million euros at the time made him the most expensive player in Seville to date. In the second half of the 2008/09 season he fell out with a knee injury for months. In early January 2010 he was awarded to Atalanta Bergamo until the end of the season . For the 2010/11 season, Chevanton returned to US Lecce on a free transfer. In the 2011/12 season he was in Argentina with CA Colón under contract and completed 15 league games in which he scored six goals. In April 2012, Chevantón, who had been repeatedly injured in the course of his career, suffered a ruptured Achilles tendon in the game against the Argentinos Juniors . He then rejoined the US Lecce, now playing in the Lega Pro Prima Divisione because of the involvement in the corruption scandal in Italian football , with whom he signed a contract for life in July 2012. The contract conditions caused a stir, because the previously highly paid player was satisfied with a monthly salary of 900 euros. He made this decision against the background of an offer from the Canadian club Toronto, which had offered him an annual salary of 600,000 euros. Chevantón played 14 championship games for Lecce in 2012/13. He met six times. Due to the economic difficulties of his club, he was later released from Lecce. On September 25, 2013 it was announced that he had signed a contract with English second division side Queens Park Rangers until Christmas Eve 2013. With the English, he was used twice (no goal) in the league and played a total of only 20 minutes. After the end of the contract, he expressed the wish to continue his career in his Uruguayan homeland and to negotiate a possible engagement with Danubio shortly.

Ultimately, he joined the first division club Liverpool Montevideo in January 2014 in his Uruguayan homeland . There he came in the remainder of the 2013/14 season in the Primera División ten times and scored three goals. At the end of the season he was relegated to the Segunda División with the club . After not having played an official game since relegation, the Uruguayan, who is now back in Italy, announced his end of career as a professional footballer on September 1, 2015.

National team

Chevantón took part with the Uruguayan U-20 national team in the U-20 South American Championship in 1999 . There he was the most successful shooter of his team with four hits and won the Vice South American Championship with the Celeste. During the tournament he was used by coach Víctor Púa nine times. He was also a member of the squad at the U-20 World Cup in Nigeria in 1999 , where Uruguay finished 4th. His teammates there included Diego Forlán and Diego Pérez . In the Uruguayan U-23 team, he played in four international matches (no goal) at the "Torneo Preolímpico" in Brazil in 2000. Chevantón was also used in the Uruguayan senior team in 22 games. He made his debut on July 13, 2001 at the Copa America 2001 in the game against Bolivia . His last assignment on the Celeste was on October 11, 2008.
