Ernie Cagnolatti

Ernest Joseph "Ernie" Cagnolatti (born April 2, 1911 in Madisonville (Louisiana) , † April 7, 1983 in New Orleans ) was an American musician ( trumpet , vocals ) of hot jazz .

Cagnolatti began to learn the trumpet as a teenager. He played in Herbert Leary's big band from 1933 to 1942 , as well as in the bands of Sidney Desvigne , Bill Matthews and Papa Celestin . In the 1940s and 1950s he performed with the George Williams Brass Band in parades. In the early 1950s he worked with Alphonse Picou . Recordings were made in the 1960s with Paul Barbarin , Harold Dejan , Jim Robinson and the Onward Brass Band (1968), and he also performed with the Camelia Brass Band and the Young Tuxedo Brass Band . From 1974 to 1980 he played regularly in the Preservation Hall . In 1980 he suffered a stroke that ended his career. Cagnolatti participated in 25 recording sessions between 1950 and 1969.
