Harold Dejan
Harold Andrew "Duke" Dejan (* 4 February 1909 in New Orleans , † 5. July 2002 ) was an American jazz - saxophonist and bandleader .
Life
Harold Dejan, who as a young musician earned his living in brothels in his hometown and on Mississippi steamers, was a member of military bands during World War II. Then he played in the Eureka Brass Band ; he led the Olympia Brass Band (which had been formed in its original form in the 1880s) since 1958. This marching band also performed in the Preservation Hall of New Orleans; with the band that u. a. also Kid Sheik belonged, he was often on a European tour and he also appeared in the James Bond film Live and Let Die on. He also founded the Young Olympians Brass Band , a brass band with young musicians (whose members later formed the Soul Rebels ). After a heart attack in 1991, he could no longer play, but continued to perform as a singer and conductor.
