The Ernst-Thälmann-Siedlung , also called Viereck ETS for short , is a district of the municipality Viereck of the office Uecker-Randow-Tal in the district of Vorpommern-Greifswald in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania . It was built in the second half of the 20th century in the middle of a large wooded area as a residential area for the workers and their families on the nearby military training areas.
The namesake of the new settlement was Ernst Thälmann , a leading politician of the Communist Party of Germany .
geography
The Ernst-Thälmann-Siedlung is located about two kilometers northeast of the main town Viereck. Just across the road from the village, the site of the long-range "includes the west right site training area Stallberg" with open spaces and functional buildings at. The cuirassier barracks, the location of the Panzergrenadier Battalion 411, is also located there . About one and a half kilometers further to the north-east lies a section of the “ Jägerbrück military training area ”, which already belongs to the neighboring town of Eggesin .

The extensive forests in the area are mixed forests or pure coniferous forests in which the pine tree dominates.
A little further away from the housing estate, in the eastern forest area, there is a small pond , which the locals call "the Marlow Sea". It is named after the former commander of the anti-aircraft missile regiment, Colonel Marlow. He had gravel removed there for new buildings in the Straße der Jugend.
Infrastructure
The association “Murkelei” eV runs a day care center called “Benjamin Blümchen” at Karl-Marx-Straße 22 a .
Club life
In the Ernst-Thälmann-Siedlung there is a local group of the aid organization Volkssolidarität and the “ Jugendclub Viereck ETS eV”.
traffic
The settlement is accessible by several roads. The street names in the Ernst-Thälmann-Siedlung are: Am Wasserwerk, Birkenstraße, Geschwister-Scholl-Straße, Gneisenaustraße, Karl-Marx-Straße, Lange Straße, Lilo-Herrmann -Straße , Schulstraße, Straße der Jugend and Waldstraße .
Immediately west of the Ernst-Thälmann-Siedlung runs in a north-south direction, the state road L 321 called here "Pasewalker Chaussee" , a state road of the second order. A section of the Berlin – Usedom long-distance cycle route also runs along this road .
