Ernst Albert Fabarius (born September 15, 1859 in Saarlouis , † October 28, 1927 in Witzenhausen ) was a German colonial scientist .

Life

Born as the son of an old Protestant pastor's family, Fabarius attended the monastery school in Roßleben from 1873 to 1881 and studied theology , economics , political science , geography and history in Bonn , Berlin, Tübingen and Halle . During his studies in 1885 he became a member of the Association of German Students in Tübingen . In 1891 he took up the post of divisional pastor in Koblenz. Here he married Margarethe Lilly on March 15, 1892.

In Koblenz, Fabarius was already very active as secretary of the Rhenish Association of the Evangelical Africa Association and as secretary of the German Colonial Society . Since 1895 Fabarius actively pursued the idea of ​​founding a training center for settlers and plantation officials in the colonies . After this project was realized, he moved to Witzenhausen in March 1899 to work as founding director and lecturer for colonial economics, ethnology and cultural and colonial history at the German Colonial School for Agriculture, Trade and Commerce . He held this position until his death. In 1906 Fabarius was appointed professor. Between April and July 1910 he went on a study trip to the colonies ( German South West Africa ) for the first and only time . Fabarius died in Witzenhausen on October 28, 1927.
