Ernst August Grieb

Ernst August Grieb (born October 16, 1845 in Burgdorf ; † October 1, 1928 there , reformed , resident in Burgdorf) was a Swiss politician ( radical ).

Life

Ernst August Grieb was born on October 16, 1845 in Burgdorf as the son of the cheese exporter Ludwig Grieb. After attending schools in Burgdorf, Ernst August Grieb lived in French-speaking Switzerland . Subsequently, he spent a year in Livorno and four years in Moscow for commercial training . Finally, in 1878, Ernst August Grieb and his brother Adolf took over his father's cheese export business, namely "Ludwig Grieb & Co." , which he headed until 1910.

Ernst August Grieb married Susanna Magdalena, the daughter of Samuel Krähenbühl, in 1873. He died on October 1, 1928, two weeks before his 83rd birthday in Burgdorf.

Political career

Ernst August Grieb initially acted as a member of the Burgdorf Citizens' Council, as President of the Schützengesellschaft and co-founder of the Burgdorf Horse Breeding Cooperative. In 1890, during the federal intervention after the Ticino putsch , Grieb did active service under Colonel Arnold Künzli , in the position of Colonel Brigadier of the Infantry . The degree of notoriety he gained through this made it easier for him to enter the National Council in the parliamentary elections in 1890 , where he belonged to the radical democratic faction until 1893.
