Ernst Bertheau

Ernst Bertheau (born November 23, 1812 in Hamburg , † May 17, 1888 in Göttingen ) was a German orientalist and exegete .

Live and act

Bertheau studied since 1832 first in Berlin, then in Goettingen theology , but preferably oriental languages, habilitated to 1839 in Göttingen in the Faculty of Philosophy and was 1,842 Extraordinary and 1843 as a full professor appointed.

As a writer, he first appeared with The Seven Groups of Mosaic Laws (Göttingen 1840) and On the History of the Israelites (Göttingen 1842). His comments on the books Richter and Ruth (Leipzig 1845), the Proverbs of Salomos (Leipzig 1847), the Books of the Chronicle (Leipzig 1854, 2nd edition 1874), Esra , Nehemia and Esther (Leipzig 1862) are very much appreciated . He also got an edition of the Syrian grammar of Gregorius Bar-Hebraeus (Göttingen 1843).
