Ernst Blum (politician)

Ernst Blum (born March 12, 1957 in Fußach ) is an Austrian politician ( FPÖ ). Blum has been mayor of the municipality of Fußach since 1993 and was a member of the Vorarlberg state parliament from 2009 to 2014 .

Education and personal life

Ernst Blum was born on March 12, 1957 in Fußach as the son of the master painter Albert Blum and his wife Hilde. He attended elementary school in Fußach from 1962 to 1966 and the secondary school in the neighboring municipality of Hard from 1966 to 1970 , before becoming a student at the Bregenz commercial school for two years . Ernst Blum then completed an apprenticeship as a painter in his parents' company and passed the journeyman's examination as a painter. From 1980 onwards, Blum attended the master school in Baden and subsequently passed the master's examination to become a master painter in 1982 .

Until 1983 Blum worked as an apprentice , journeyman and finally master in his parents' painting business. In 1983 he became managing director of the company Farben Morscher in Dornbirn and Lustenau, which he remained until 1991. In 1991 there was a change of profession and Blum became purchasing manager at Ärztebedarf Scherer in Höchst. Ernst Blum has been the full-time mayor of the municipality of Fußach since 1993 .

Ernst Blum has been married to Maria Luise (née Lechner) since November 26, 1982 and has a daughter with her. He lives with his family in Fußach.

Political career

Ernst Blum first became politically active in 1990, when he joined the Free Voting Association in Fußach and was elected to the local council of Fußach for the first time . From 1992 to 1993 he was a member of the local council. Ernst Blum has been the parliamentary group leader of the Free Voting Association and mayor of the municipality of Fußach since 1993. He was elected mayor in April 1993 by the municipal council, replacing former mayor August Grabher in office. In 2000 Blum joined the Freedom Party of Austria and in the same year became its deputy district chairman in the Bregenz district and a member of the district party leadership. Since October 11, 2002 he has also been a member of the state party executive of the FPÖ Vorarlberg and since 2005 a member of the state party leadership.

In the state elections in 2009 , Ernst Blum was elected for the first time as a member of the Vorarlberg state parliament and was sworn in there on October 14, 2009. In the 29th legislative period of the state parliament, Blum was subsequently area spokesman for the FPÖ state parliament club for local affairs, social affairs and care. In the state elections in 2014 , Ernst Blum could no longer obtain a state parliament mandate and therefore resigned from the new state parliament on October 15, 2014.
