Ernst Burkardt

Ernst Burkardt (* 1928 ; † 2014 ) was a German classical philologist , high school teacher and author.

Life

Ernst Burkardt grew up as the eldest son of pastor Karl Burkardt (1902–1978) and his wife Mathilde, née. Bläsing (1903–1985), with four younger siblings in Wiblingwerde and Hohenlimburg .

After the evacuation of the Albrecht-Dürer-Gymnasium in Hagen in the Second World War in 1943, he attended the Friedrichs-Gymnasium in Herford . In 1944/45 he became an air force helper and was last stationed near Wittenberg.

In 1947 he passed the Abitur examination in Hagen. Because of an illness he interrupted his education for a long time. In the winter semester of 1949/50, Ernst Burkardt first studied at the church music school in Herford and then moved to the Philipps University of Marburg , where he passed the first state examination in Greek and Latin in 1955 . In 1956 he was with the thesis "The Origin of parabasis of Aristophanes ' to Dr. phil. PhD.

After completing his legal clerkship in Duisburg and Essen , Ernst Burkardt got a job at the Freiherr-vom-Stein-Gymnasium in Leverkusen , where he built up the newly established Greek subject.

After his retirement in 1990 he lived in Mayschoss an der Ahr , his wife's home. In addition to working in the vineyards, he devoted himself to minor historical problems and above all translations from Latin and Greek, which he distributed to relatives and friends as self-bound books. Ernst Burkardt died in Mayschoss in 2014 after a short illness.
