Ernst Clausen

Ernst Alexander Clausen (born September 18, 1861 in Aurich , † December 13, 1912 in Jena ) was a Prussian officer, German prose writer and critic of the times.

Life

Clausen came from a Hanoverian family of officers and officials. Contrary to his Welf family tradition, he entered Prussian service. His military and time-critical writings with old Prussian standpoints earned him the “ simple farewell ” as captain . From then on he devoted himself to writing (contemporary and historical novels and short stories, essay writing, Freemasonry ) and published the literary magazine Wartburgstimmen . Max Eyth was one of his friends.

He married twice: first Emilie Kron († 1901), this marriage had three sons, including the officer Ernst Clausen, who published about gliding as "Klaus Zelter" , and the actor Claus Clausen ; and after her death Rita Winter (1884–1968), later under her second married name Rita Öhquist, a well-known translator from Finnish and Swedish; this marriage had two sons.
