Ernst Fiala (born February 23, 1940 in Vienna ; † November 11, 2006 ibid) was an Austrian football player in the position of striker.

Career

The trained carpenter began his sporting career in the lower league at the Vienna Movement Sports Club IX in the 9th district, from where he switched to the offspring of Vienna Austria at a young age . He made his debut for the Violets in 1959 at the age of 19 and remained an integral part of the fighting team until 1974.

Fiala was part of the Austria team, which was three times champion in the early sixties (1961, 1962 and 1963). He contributed significantly to the title wins in 1969 and 1970. He succeeded where many failed: the change from "beautiful" football to tough football business.

After his career, Ernst Fiala was a tobacconist in Vienna's 20th district until he retired . After a long and serious illness, Ernst Fiala died at the age of 66 on the night of November 10th to 11th, 2006. He was buried on November 24, 2006 at the Stammersdorfer Zentralfriedhof (group 1, row 4, number 18).

Honors

Fiala was named honorary captain by his parent club Austria Wien.

Private

His nickname was "Dralle" (based on his preferred hair tonic Dr. Dralle's birch hair tonic ).
