Ernst Gay

Ernst Gay (born May 25, 1927 in Bandtken, Marienwerder district ; † September 5, 2012 ) was the mayor and local chronicle of the small town of Burg Stargard in the Mecklenburg Lake District .

life and work

Born in Bandtken in West Prussia in 1927 , Ernst Gay attended elementary school here from 1933 to 1941 . In Marienwerder he had a short-term job as an errand boy. He trained in the district office of Marienwerder from 1941 to 1943 and after graduation worked for three months as an administrative clerk. After joining the Wehrmacht in 1944, he was taken prisoner by the Americans towards the end of the war in 1945 . She was released shortly afterwards.

He worked for a farmer for four months and in the coal mine for three months . The following summer, 1946, he moved to his grandparents' home in Stargard Castle, where he got a job in the flax roaster . In 1947 he was employed as a clerk and immediately afterwards as a department head. Almost fifteen years later, from 1961 to 1964, he qualified as an industrial economist at the technical college for industrial economics in Rodewisch , Vogtland. After completing his studies, he worked in a company as a planning manager.

A year later he became mayor of the small town of Burg Stargard. He worked here for almost 19 years, from 1965 to 1984. He was then deputy mayor of the city. From 1984 to 1990 he worked for the council of the Neubrandenburg district as office manager and deputy secretary.

At 63, Gay retired, but continued to devote himself to the local history of Burg Stargard (1965–2005). In 1995 he moved to Stavenhagen .

In 1998 he was made an honorary citizen of Burg Stargard.

Most recently Ernst Gay lived in a senior citizens' residence , suffering from Alzheimer's disease .

On September 15, 2012, he was given a final escort to the cemetery in Stargard Castle.
