Ernst Gebendinger (born February 10, 1926 in Winterthur ; † May 23, 2017 there ) was a Swiss gymnast .

biography

Gebendinger grew up in the Hegifeld in Winterthur and completed an apprenticeship as a machine fitter , then attended the one-year textile college in Zurich and worked for two years as a textile weaver in the Sidi machine factory in Winterthur.

It was only very late, at the age of 17, that he began to do gymnastics as a club and joined TV Hegi . At the 1950 home World Cup in Basel , Gebendinger won gold three times: In the individual disciplines jump (tied with teammate Josef Stalder ) and floor as well as in the team all-around competition. At the 1952 Olympics , he was part of the Swiss team in the team all-around event, which won the silver medal in the team all-around event, but only came 39th in the individual all-around event. In 1954 Gerbendinger had to end his career after an accident.

After the end of his career he continued to do gymnastics, even if not at the top level. He was the gymnast of the city ​​gymnastics club and presided over the TV Hegi. He also worked as a technical assistant at the Technikum Winterthur .
