From 1888 to 1889 he studied at the Kunstgewerbeschule in Cologne and from 1889 to 1890 at the Royal Art School in Berlin . Here he obtained his diploma as a drawing teacher. He worked as a decorative painter in Berlin for two years. From 1892 to 1903 he lived in Cuxhaven and Hamburg and was active in the arts and crafts. From 1903 to 1910 he studied at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Berlin .

In 1910 Gock returned to Cuxhaven and exhibited his works here in the library in Friedrichstrasse. He mainly painted portraits and maritime motifs in the neo-impressionist style. From 1910 to 1912 he worked with the impressionist Carl Vinnen and from 1950 to 1956 with the sculptor Doris von Sengbusch-Eckardt (1905–2000). He received little recognition from the Cuxhaveners and later viewed his return as a big mistake.
