European record
EM record 12.38 s EM Stuttgart , Federal Republic of Germany August 29, 1986

The since 1986 existing top-class EM -record was not achieved even at these European Championships. However, there were clear headwind conditions in almost all races.

Preliminary round

The preliminary round was held in four runs. The first three athletes per run - highlighted in light blue - as well as the four fastest runners - highlighted in light green - qualified for the semi-finals. Due to the fact that the fifth-placed hurdler in the third race and the sixth-placed in the second race were equal in time in the thousandths of a second, five participants finally reached the next lap over their time. Another athlete, on the other hand, who in the fourth run with 13.12 s in the hundredths of a second area also had the same time as these two runners who ultimately qualified for the semi-finals, was weaker in the thousandths of a second area and was therefore eliminated.
