Sarah Lavin gained her first international experience in 2011 at the European Youth Olympic Festival in Trabzon , where she won the bronze medal in 13.62 seconds and was disqualified in the final with the Irish 4 x 100 meter relay. The following year she reached the semi-finals at the Junior World Championships in Barcelona , in which she could not finish her run. In 2013 she won the silver medal in 13.34 seconds at the Junior European Championships in Rieti . In 2014 she qualified for the European Championships in Zurich , where she was eliminated in the first round in the hurdles with 13.35 s, as well as with the relay in 43.84 s. At the IAAF World Relays 2015 in the Bahamas , she finished fifth in the 4 x 200 meter relay in 1: 36.90 min. At the U23 European Championships in Tallinn , she retired with 13.87 s in the first round and could not finish the final run with the relay. In 2017 she took part in the Summer Universiade in Taipei for the first time and was eliminated there with 13.64 seconds in the semi-finals. Two years later she was eighth in the European Games in Minsk in 13.32 s and reached fourth place in the Student World Games in Naples in 13.28 s.
In 2013 and 2014 as well as in 2017 and 2019 Lavin was Irish champion in the 100-meter hurdles and in 2013, 2014 and 2016 indoor champion in the 60-meter hurdles.
