Ernst Heinrich Georg Strohmeyer (born June 27, 1869 in Kiel ; † December 15, 1940 there ) was a Kiel city gymnastics warden and administrative director.

Life

Ernst Heinrich Georg Strohmeyer was a son of basket maker Otto Jochim Georg Strohmeyer (born January 31, 1836 in Raisdorf ; † December 25, 1926 in Kiel ) and his wife Anna Magdalene, née Dose (* 1840; † February 4, 1916 in Kiel) . The family's ancestors originally came from Austria.

Strohmeyer attended the teachers' college in Segeberg , which he left in 1890. He then taught in Kiel. Due to his well-known commitment to the engagement, he taught a little later as a gymnastics teacher at the Oberrealschule I and the university there , where he was the first teacher to establish state training courses for gymnastics teachers. He also worked as a gymnastics warden for the men's gymnastics club in Kiel and as a district warden for the Turngau Ostholstein. During the holidays he offered courses for youth games at Kiel University to teachers from the countryside who had no gyms available.

On October 16, 1903, Strohmeyer married Margretha Friederike Georgine Otte (born January 13, 1875 in Kiel, † July 8, 1847 in Plön ). The marriage remained childless. In 1907 he was appointed city gymnastics inspector in Dortmund . In 1918 he moved from there to Frankfurt am Main , where he worked briefly as a city gymnastics councilor. A year later he took over a position as administrative director at the Pinneberg district welfare office. In 1933 he retired to Kiel.

Works

In addition to his professional activity, Strohmeyer wrote essays and books to make gymnastics more popular. He also reported on youth hostels and wrote about the history of Schleswig-Holstein for the Kieler Zeitung .

Strohmeyer also made his wall books known, which he provided with notes on the history, legends, natural impressions to be emphasized and historical sites. His Schleswig-Holstein hiking and travel book appeared in its fifth edition by 1925.

Strohmeyer's handwritten works were largely destroyed during World War II.
