Ernst I. von Schauenburg
Ernst I. von Schauenburg († July 22/23 , 1471 ) was Bishop of Hildesheim from 1458 .
The fourth son of Otto von Holstein-Schauenburg became a canon in Hildesheim in 1445. In 1458 he was elected bishop and confirmed the following year. He was devoted to hunting and war. In 1459 he initiated restrictions on jurisdiction . He was unable to ward off the devastation of his pen by neighboring princes. Under him, the Seven Founders appeared for the first time as part of the landscape of the former Principality of Hildesheim . In 1469 the city concluded a protective alliance with Duke Otto von Lüneburg under him . Ernst is said to have died out of grief over the misfortune that happened to Duke Friedrich in the war.
