Otto II (Schaumburg)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Otto II (* 1400 ; † June 1, 1464 ) ruled the County of Holstein-Pinneberg and the ancestral county of Schauenburg from 1426 to 1464.

Life

He was born in 1400 as the son of Adolf IX. von Holstein and Schauenburg and Helene von Hoya born.

After the other counts of the House of Schauenburg in Holstein (most recently Holstein-Rendsburg ) died out in 1459, Otto made his claim to these parts of the country based on the Kiel Treaty of 1390. However, he was unable to assert himself against the claims of Christian I of Denmark from the House of Oldenburg . This descended from the Schauenburgers through the maternal line. Otto was only awarded a cash settlement - but probably never paid out - and the Schauenburger Hof in Hamburg .

Three of his sons entered the clergy, the remaining five ruled the counties partly at the same time, partly one after the other. Only the youngest had a legitimate offspring.

family

He was married to Elisabeth von Hohnstein . Eight sons were born from this marriage.
