Ernst II. Leopold of Hessen-Rotenburg (born June 15, 1684 in Langenschwalbach , † November 29, 1749 in Rotenburg an der Fulda ) was Landgrave of Hessen-Rotenburg . He was the eldest son of Wilhelm I the Elder of Hessen-Rheinfels-Rotenburg (1648–1725) and his wife Marie Anna, b. Countess of Löwenstein-Wertheim-Rochefort (1652–1688).

Life

Ernst II. Leopold succeeded his father in 1725 as regent of the Rotenburg half of the Rotenburger Quart . In the Wanfried half, his cousin Wilhelm von Hessen-Wanfried ruled first , after his death from 1731 his stepbrother Christian von Hessen-Wanfried . During his tenure, Ernst Leopold had the Blumenstein (Wildeck) hunting lodge built. In 1739 he approved a Jewish school and a cemetery, which later became the basis of a Jewish community in Rotenburg known throughout Hesse. During his tenure, the court did not quarrel with Hessen-Kassel and the quarters, but carefully tightened the quarters administration.
