Ernst Jacob von Audorf (also Amydor, the Hilarious ; born November 30, 1639 ; died December 5, 1705 ) was a captain of the Breslau city garrison, military engineer and novelist.

Life

Audorf was probably born in Pürbischau near Trebnitz in the Silesian principality of Oels , the property of his father Heinrich von Audorf. He seems to have been a military professional, at least at the beginning of the 18th century he was captain of a company in the city garrison of Wroclaw, and he wrote a pamphlet on fortification ( Discurs von der Krieg-Baukunst or Fortification ).

As a novelist, he is the author of Die Durchlauchtigste Olorena / Oder Warhrachtige State and Love History of this time , a key novel that transparently depicts political-military events from the period between 1660 and 1680, including, above all, a love affair with Duke Charles IV of Lorraine (“Carlloreno”) with Eleonora Maria Josefa , sister of the Habsburg Emperor Leopold I. The four-part novel was supplemented by a fifth part by August Bohse and published under his own name.

Audorf's second novel, Publius Cornelius Scipio, the African heroes and love story is a textbook of Roman history in the form of a novel, loosened up with love stories as well as dramatic and poetic interludes.

Audorf probably died on his estate in Domatschine, also in the Principality of Oels.
