Ernst Jessen

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Ernst Jessen (born April 19, 1859 in Twedt near Flensburg , † September 18, 1933 in Switzerland) was a German dentist and private lecturer who is considered the "father of school dental care".

Live and act

Jessen founded what was probably the world's first school dental clinic in Strasbourg in Alsace in 1902 . The impetus was that he became aware of the ailing condition of children's teeth in 1885. Jessen's research showed a 93 to 95 percent prevalence of tooth decay in school children. Because of this, some students were in so much pain that they stopped attending classes.

During his studies in 1880 he became a member of the Tübingen fraternity Derendingia .

He is the father of the banker and industrialist Fritz Jessen (1886–1951).
