Ernst Joseph Lexis
Ernst Joseph Lexis (born July 12, 1808 in Eschweiler ; † February 17, 1884 in Bonn ) was a German doctor and politician .
Life
Born as the son of a doctor and Eschweiler mayor, Lexis studied medicine in Bonn after attending grammar school in Eschweiler . During his studies he became a member of the old Bonn fraternity in 1829 . He was promoted to Dr. med. obtained his doctorate and worked as a general practitioner in Eschweiler since 1834 . He worked as a surgeon , obstetrician and miners' surgeon for the Eschweiler Mining Association , and from 1851 also as a vaccination doctor , for which he later received the Silver Vaccination Medal. During a cholera epidemic in 1866 he saved many lives, but could not save that of his wife.
Politically, he was very active, so he became a member of the Eschweiler municipal council and temporarily assigned mayor . From 1858 to 1868 he was a member of the Rhineland Provincial Parliament . In 1859/60 he became the provisional first mayor of Eschweiler.
In 1873 he retired and spent his twilight years in Bonn.
His son was the mathematician and economist Wilhelm Lexis .
