Ernst Kramer

Ernst Kramer (born December 31, 1909 in Fulda ; † May 7, 1993 ibid) was a German architect and local historian from Fulda.

Origin and family

Ernst Kramer came from a long-established Fulda family. His grandfather was the master mason and mason Adam Kramer. One of his works is the "market fountain" from 1860 in front of the house Peterstor 10 in the city center of Fulda.

Life

Ernst Kramer studied architecture, urban planning and art history in Munich, Dresden and Berlin. He then worked as an architect in Fulda, Würzburg, Berlin and Potsdam. In 1936 he was appointed government architect in Berlin . From 1945 Kramer was a freelance architect in Fulda. He was involved in the reconstruction and restoration of several buildings in his hometown that had been destroyed in World War II ( Fulda Cathedral , Fulda City Palace , Fulda Orangery and others).

In his art historical research Kramer devoted particular history and the masterpieces of 1764 by Heinrich von Bibra based porcelain - manufactory , the high Princely Fuldischen Porcellain-Fabrique . He made a significant contribution to the development of the porcelain collections that can be seen today in the Fulda City Palace , the Vonderau Museum and the Fasanerie Palace .

In the local supplement Buchenblätter of the Fuldaer Zeitung and in the magazine of the Fuldaer Geschichtsverein Kramer published articles on art, town and state history . For the quarterly Keramos. Journal of the Society of Ceramic Friends , he wrote numerous articles on porcelain art.

Honors

Ernst Kramer is the recipient of the culture award of the city of Fulda.
