Ernst A. Kramer

Ernst August Kramer (born July 1, 1944 in Bregenz ) is a Swiss - Austrian legal scholar with Austrian citizenship.

Life

Ernst A. Kramer studied law at the University of Vienna from 1962 to 1966 and received his doctorate in law in 1967 . Until 1972 he was a university assistant at the Institute for International Private Law and Comparative Private Law at the University of Salzburg . In 1971 there followed his habilitation with venia legendi for Austrian private law, comparative private law and methodology of private law.

From 1972 to 1974 Kramer worked as a university lecturer at the chair for Austrian and international trade and economic law as well as civil law at the University of Salzburg, from 1974 to 1977 as professor for trade and securities law at the University of Innsbruck and from 1977 to 1992 in this position for Private and commercial law at the University of St. Gallen . From 1979 to 1980 he was also head of the legal department there. From 1984 to 1991 he was director of the Institute for European and International Economic and Social Law at the University of St. Gallen. Since 1992, Kramer has also taught at the University of Basel as a full professor of private law. In 1994 and 2001 he was Dean of the Faculty of Law there . In 2009 Kramer retired .

Kramer has been a member of the Accademia dei Giusprivatisti Europei in Pavia since 1990, a corresponding member of the Austrian Academy of Sciences since 2002 and a foreign member of the Istituto Lombardo Accademia di Scienze e Lettere since 2015 .

Ernst A. Kramer is a consultant at the commercial law firm Vischer in Zurich and Basel . He is married to Karin Verena Kramer nee Poley. You live in St. Gallen .

Awards

• Theodor Körner Prize for the habilitation thesis (1971).
• Honorary doctorate (Dr. iur. Hc) from the University of Lucerne (2007).
• Honorary doctorate (Dr. iur. Hc) from the University of Freiburg im Üechtland (2015).
