Heinrich Honsell (born July 28, 1942 in Munich ) is a lawyer with German and Austrian citizenship .

Life

Heinrich Honsell received his doctorate in 1969 from the University of Munich under Wolfgang Kunkel . 1972 followed the habilitation with Karl Larenz (1903-1993). In the same year he started working at Bielefeld University , where he remained as a professor of civil law until 1977. He then taught private law and Roman law at the University of Salzburg until 1989 and then moved to the University of Zurich , where he retired as Professor for Swiss and European Private Law on August 31, 2007 .

From 1993 to 2003 Honsell was a member of the board of directors of the German Association of Civil Law Teachers ; from 1999 he held the post of the executive board. Honsell is also a corresponding member of the Austrian Academy of Sciences in Vienna .

In addition to numerous other publications, Honsell is editor and co-author of the Basel Commentaries on Swiss Private Law, von Staudinger's Commentary on the German Civil Code and a commentary on the UN Sales Convention .
