Ernst Meusel

Ernst Meusel (born January 12, 1881 in Gotha , † November 15, 1933 in Königsberg ) was a German naval officer , most recently rear admiral .

Life

Meusel occurred on 10 April 1899 as a midshipman in the Imperial navy one, completed his basic training on the cruiser frigate SMS Gneisenau and then came to the Naval Academy. There he was appointed ensign at sea on April 10, 1900 . He was then used on board the liner SMS Kaiser Barbarossa , promoted to lieutenant on September 27, 1902, and Meusel then served on the liner SMS Kaiser Karl der Große from December 16, 1903 to September 30, 1904 . As a first lieutenant at sea (since July 14, 1904), he was made available to the I. Marine Inspection and on April 1, 1905, embarked on the journey to Saint Thomas on the steamer Syra . There Meusel worked as a watch officer on the small cruiser SMS Bremen used in station service . After returning home in July 1907, he was first used as a company officer in the 1st Sailor Division. From August 6, 1907 to September 30, 1908 he was an officer on watch on the liner SMS Pommern and then again for a year with the I. Sailor Division. This time as a company commander . In the meantime promoted to captainleutnant on March 27, 1909 , he was employed from October 1, 1909 to March 31, 1912 as an artillery officer on the large cruiser SMS Hertha . For a short time he came as a ship's boy officer on the sailing training ship König Wilhelm and then completed the I and II courses at the Naval Academy in Kiel . On July 1, 1914, he was placed at the disposal of the chief of the deep sea fleet and with the outbreak of the First World War he was second and first artillery officer on the large-scale ship SMS König . With this he took part in the Battle of the Skagerrak and was promoted aboard to Corvette Captain on January 13, 1917 . Meusel came on October 5, 1918 as 2nd Admiral Staff Officer in the staff of III. Squadron, where he stayed after the end of the war.

From December 22nd, 1918 to February 2nd, 1919 he was deputy commander of the Kiel Ship Main Association, was briefly placed at the disposal of the Navy Education Inspectorate and on February 16, 1919 was appointed 1st Adjutant of the Inspectorate. At the same time Meusel was from August 6, 1919 to March 22, 1920 liaison officer of the Naval Peace Commission in Kiel. Subsequently, on leave for two months, Meusel came on May 31, 1920 as Chief of Staff to the staff of the naval station of the Baltic Sea and was in command of the small cruiser Medusa from September 30, 1922 to September 26, 1924 . In this role he had meanwhile become a frigate captain on April 1, 1923 . He then served as chief of staff at the North Sea Naval Station for almost two years, was appointed captain of the sea on August 1, 1925 and as such was appointed commander of Pillau on September 29, 1926 . Meusel was placed at the disposal of the chief of the North Sea Naval Station on September 26, 1930 , and on September 30, 1930, while being promoted to Rear Admiral, he was retired from active service.
