Ernst Oschmann

Ernst Oschmann (born February 22, 1907 in Berlin , † October 16, 1979 in East Berlin ) was a German communist resistance fighter against National Socialism , member of the Penal Battalion 999 , fighter of the Albanian Liberation Army and party functionary ( SED ).

Life

Oschmann learned after visiting the elementary school the profession of saddler and upholsterer . During the Weimar Republic , he joined the Communist Party of Germany (KPD) and was active against the emergence of National Socialism . In 1933 and 1934 he was in charge of the KPD sub-district of Köpenick . When the Hitler government was formed in 1933 , he was already organizing and leading protests in the Bahnhofstrasse in Köpenick on January 30th. Further protests followed in April and May 1933. He published educational material about the crimes of the SA against their opponents in the Köpenick Blood Week under camouflage names (" Air protection is self-protection") . He also worked on the production and distribution of the KPD newspaper Die Rote Fahne .

On 19 December 1934 he was on the Gestapo arrested and in Brandenburg prison in haftiert . On May 4, 1935, he was sentenced to two years in prison by a higher court for “preparation for high treason ” , which he had to serve in Brandenburg-Görden . At the same time as his trial, his " military worthiness " was revoked and he was therefore not drafted into the armed forces. In 1944, however, he was pressed into the penalty battalion 999 and used in fighting in Albania . Seizing the opportunity, he went over to the partisans and fought as a member of the National Liberation Army of Albania against the German conquerors. His hand was torn off during a demining operation .

When the Nazi rule was eliminated, he returned to Germany in 1945. He later worked in the party apparatus of the Socialist Unity Party of Germany (SED).

After his death, he is in VdN-Ehrenhain of Berlin-Adlershof have been buried.
