Ernst Oswald Schmidt

Ernst Oswald Schmidt (born July 10, 1839 in Plauen ; † May 7, 1919 in Leipzig ) was a German Evangelical Lutheran theologian and teacher .

life and work

Schmidt, the son of a train station agent, received his doctorate as Dr. phil. and became a senior teacher at the Saxon School Teacher Seminar in Borna . There he published the General Church Chronicle , among other things . In 1869 he took the position of Evangelical Lutheran pastor in Theuma . In 1874 he moved to Annaberg , where he became pastor, superintendent and church councilor at the Annenkirche . There he worked for over 40 years and achieved lasting importance, especially through his willingness to build the church.

In 1908 he wrote the magnificent work The St. Anne's Church in Annaberg. A guide through its history and its art monuments . He also wrote the hundred sculptural representations on the balustrades of the galleries of St. Anne's Church in Annaberg , Annaberg: ER Grellmann'sche Buchdruckerei, 1882. He spent the last years of his life in the trade fair city of Leipzig.

Since his studies (summer 1860) Schmidt was a member of the Leipzig University Choir of St. Pauli (today the German Choir ).

Honors

Schmidt was made an honorary citizen of the city of Annaberg in 1911.
