Pethig settled in Lemgo as an independent architect. The house of the Kleßmann family, built on the Slavertorwall between 1929 and 1931, is one of his most important buildings and is considered to be the only example of modern building from the 1920s in Lemgo and the surrounding area.

The city of Lemgo has named a street after him.
