Career

Club

Zsombor Antal, who belongs to the Hungarian-speaking Szekler minority in Romania , began his career as a hockey player at Újpesti TE in the Hungarian capital Budapest , for whom he played in the Hungarian ice hockey league. In 2006 he returned to his hometown Miercurea Ciuc , where he was active for HC Csíkszereda in the Romanian league until 2009 and last year in the multinational MOL league , which he won with his team. Despite this success, HC Csíkszereda stopped playing in 2009 for financial reasons and Antal joined the ASC Corona 2010 Brașov , which was then still called Sport Club Municipal Fenestela 68 Brașov , for which he also played in the MOL league and the Romanian ice hockey league stood on the ice. With the Kronstadters, he won the Romanian championship title in 2014 and the national cup competition in 2013 and 2015 . Since 2015 he has been playing at HSC Csíkszereda , the traditional Szekler club in his hometown of Miercurea Ciuc, with which he won the cup in 2016 and won the championship double in 2018. In 2017 he was named the best goal setter in the Romanian ice hockey league.

International

In contrast to other Szeklers who compete for Hungary , Antal plays internationally for his native Romania . In the junior division, he was active in Division II at the 2005 U20 World Cup . He made his debut in the men's national team at the World Championships in Division I in 2007 , but could not prevent his country from relegating to Division II. In 2008 , 2010 and 2011 he competed in Division II of the World Cup. After he was promoted again at the 2011 tournament - also thanks to ten assists from Antal, who was the best preparer of the tournament together with the Croatian Marko Lovrenčić - he competed with Romania in Division I of the World Cup in 2012 and 2013 .

He also played for Romania in November 2012 in qualifying for the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi .
