Ernst Raffelsberger

Ernst Raffelsberger (born 1961 in Gmunden ) is an Austrian choir director and conductor .

Live and act

Raffelsberger studied music education , church music and choral conducting (with Erwin Ortner ) at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Vienna , then choral conducting with Walter Hagen-Groll at the Salzburg Mozarteum .

From 1983 to 1986 he was Kapellmeister of the Vienna Boys' Choir and directed the ensemble both at concerts in Vienna and on tours through Europe, South Africa, Canada and the USA.

From 1986 to 1989 Ernst Raffelsberger was the choir director and Kapellmeister at the Landestheater Salzburg and was active at the Salzburg Mozart Week and the Salzburg Festival .

In 1989 he was appointed choir director and conductor at the Freiburg Theater by Donald Runnicles . Raffelsberger has been the choir director at the Zurich Opera House since autumn 1993 , where he has now overseen more than a hundred premieres and has worked with many well-known conductors. Guest performances with the Zurich Ensemble have taken him to Vienna, London, Paris and Tokyo. A series of CD and DVD recordings document this work.

Since 2012 he has been the choir director of the Concert Association of the Vienna State Opera Choir at the Salzburg Festival, responsible for the rehearsals of numerous operas and concert programs. In 2017 he will be responsible for a number of choir productions: with Lady Macbeth of Mzensk , the Aida and with Wozzeck ,
