Ernst Reinboth

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Ernst Reinboth (born February 8, 1935 in Berlin ; † December 24, 2016 in Berlin) was a German short film maker and painter .

Life

Ernst Reinboth was the third of four children of the factory owner Friedrich Reinboth and his wife Hildegart Reinboth, nee. Moonlight, born. Besides the two years of school evacuation on Rügen and in Denmark in 1943 and 1944, he grew up in Berlin . In 1929 his father built a house for his family in Berlin-Dahlem , where Ernst Reinboth was born, grew up and lived and worked as an artist all his life.

After graduating from high school, Ernst Reinboth studied art and sport to become a teacher at the University of Fine Arts in Berlin. He successfully completed his legal clerkship at the Schiller-Gymnasium in Berlin. After his legal traineeship, he went to Mexico for a year , where he made his first film. Since then he has been fascinated by cacti, clouds, water, and reflections. He decided not to become a teacher, but to art and since then has worked as a freelance independent artist, short film maker and painter.

In 1968 he met his future wife Barbara at the Akademie der Künste , whom he married in 1970. With her he had a son and a daughter. Ernst Reinboth died in December 2016 at the age of almost 82. Until the end he worked intensively on new films and also as a painter. Ernst Reinboth's grave is in the Dahlem cemetery in Berlin .

Film and painting

Most of Ernst Reinboth's films are short films and experimental films. They reflect all the possibilities of film production in 16 mm, double exposures, positive / negative, reflections, tempo variations that alienate and abstract the nature shots through these contrasts.

Painting and filming formed a symbiosis in his work. The series of photos resulting from the films are painted and surreally alienated by him, and pictures and drawings painted by him provide templates for the development and creation of new films. His films were accompanied by music or based on pieces of music.

Ernst Reinboth often worked with music by Johann Sebastian Bach from the Well-Tempered Clavier , with music by György Ligeti and Maurice Ravel , but above all he worked with new music and experimental sounds by Boris Blacher , Karl Heinz Wahren , Rüdiger Rüfer and Nikolai Badinski.

A close cooperation with the Institute for Electroacoustics of the TU Berlin, especially with Boris Blacher , Professor Winkler, Rüdiger Rüfer and Volkmar Hein supported his work.

In addition to the music, many of his short films were accompanied by literary texts by Dante , Gottfried Benn and Samuel Beckett . Samuel Beckett was so interested in his work that he visited him once in his house in Berlin.

The lyrics were spoken by actors like Ernst Schröder and Will Quadflieg . The collaboration with artists such as Michael Schwarze , Bernhard Heiliger and Edith Türckheim led to the creation of the films Aleph , Light, Sculpture, Space and Yang and Ying .
