Ernst Stadler (entrepreneur)

Ernst Stadler (born April 17, 1908 ; † 1981 ) was a Swiss engineer , entrepreneur and founder of Stadler Vehicles AG, today's Stadler Rail , in Bussnang in the canton of Thurgau .

Life

Little is known about Ernst Stadler's life until the early 1940s. In 1942 he founded a design office in Zurich , where he mainly worked on individually manufactured locomotives for use in pits , power plant tunnels and industrial plants. He built a machine factory in Freienbach in 1948 and a production hall in Bussnang in 1962. The company headquarters were moved there in 1968.

Ernst Stadler died in 1981.

Corporate succession

Due to the succession , his second wife Irma Stadler-Müller initially took over the management of the company. Together with Albert Kniele, who is now head of the design office, the company continued to develop in the construction of wagons and railcars .

In 1986 Ernst Stadler's granddaughter Andrea Schaffner married the ice hockey player and later National Councilor Peter Spuhler , who then joined the company as CEO . He initially took over the company with a loan of 5 million Swiss francs , which later grew to include several thousand employees as Stadler Rail .

Ernst Stadler was married twice and has five children.
