Ernst Stein (born October 17, 1916 in Kleinleipisch , † April 7, 1977 ) was a German SED functionary. He was secretary of the SED district leadership in Berlin and first secretary of the SED district leadership in Köpenick .

Life

Stein, the son of a working-class family, attended elementary and vocational school , completed an apprenticeship as a building fitter and then worked in this profession. In 1931 he joined the KJVD . In 1936 he was drafted into the Reich Labor Service and in 1937 into the Wehrmacht . In 1945 he was taken prisoner by the Soviets as a sergeant major and from May 1947 to March 1948 he attended the Antifa School 2041 in the village of Talizy.

On April 1, 1948, he returned from captivity, went to Berlin and joined the SED. He first worked as a locksmith at VEB RFT Köpenick. From November 1948 to October 1949 he worked as SED company group secretary at VEB Kabelwerk Oberspree Berlin-Köpenick. From October 1949 to 1955 he was first secretary of the SED district leadership in Köpenick and from March 18, 1956 to October 31, 1975 secretary for agriculture and head of the office for agriculture or (from 1971) food industry, trade and local supply industry of the SED- District management Berlin. Stein was a member of the SED district leadership until his death. He was a candidate since 1954 and since 1956 a member of the office and secretariat of the SED district leadership. For health reasons he was replaced as secretary at his own request. He completed a distance learning course at the technical college for agriculture in Oranienburg in September 1964 as a state-certified farmer.

From 1967 to 1976 he was city ​​councilor for East Berlin and chairman of the permanent commission for agriculture of the city council.
