Ernst Valentin von Strebel

Ernst Valentin von Strebel (born September 5, 1846 in Weil ; † September 24, 1927 in Stuttgart ) was a German crop scientist and agricultural economist .

Ernst Valentin, son of pastor Johann Valentin Strebel (born 1801 in Oberndorf / Schweinfurt) and Johanna Emilia Magdalena Harleß (born 1809 in Nuremberg, sister of Adolf Harleß and Emil Harleß ), practiced for four years after attending a high school in Stuttgart various goods, then studied agriculture in Hohenheim and worked as an economic inspector and teacher at the agricultural school in Hohenheim from 1873. In 1881 he was appointed professor at the Hohenheim Agricultural Academy with a teaching position for crop production and engineering . His main interest was initially in special crop production. He made a name for himself in specialist circles with several book publications, above all with a " Handbuch des Hopfenbaues " (1887) and a textbook on grain cultivation (1888).

From 1897 to 1912 Strebel was director of the Hohenheim Agricultural Academy. With the directorate he took over the field of agricultural economics. From then on, he mainly held lectures on agricultural management and the Hohenheim estate. During his tenure, he did a lot to expand the teaching staff at the Hohenheim Academy. He was involved in several agricultural associations, including the German Agricultural Council and the German Agricultural Society . He worked as a book author well into old age. The Hohenheim Agricultural University awarded him an honorary doctorate in 1922. His oldest brother was the organ builder Johannes Strebel (born in Forchtenberg in 1832).
