The Serrig barrage is Germany's largest river barrage on a natural river course. It is located near the municipality of Serrig at river kilometer 18.3 of the Saar between the barrages Kanzem and Mettlach . There are further barrages in Rehlingen , Lisdorf and Saarbrücken .
It is one of several barrages that were built in the course of making the Saar navigable on the route from Saarbrücken to Konz . A total of 55 meters in altitude are overcome.
The Serrig barrage was built between 1981 and 1986 and has a lifting height of 14.5 m. The underwater is at 142.00 m above sea level and the storage target is at 156.50 m above sea level.
The barrage has two lock chambers , the larger of which is 190 m long and 12.07 m wide. The smaller one is 40 m long and 6.70 m wide. The average rate of climb is 1.40 m per minute, resulting in a filling time of around 10.2 minutes.
A hydroelectric power station is part of the barrage . The output of the two bulb turbines is 12 MW.
