Ernst Vranckx

Ernst Vranckx (born April 3, 1966 in Leuven ) is a Belgian jazz musician ( piano , composition ).

Vranckx, older brother of Shishani Vranckx , studied since 1987 first at the Antwerp Jazz Studio , then at the Koninklijk Conservatorium Brussel . He began his musical career in the late 1980s.

Vranckx worked with Kenny Wheeler ( A Child's Blessing 1998), John Ruocco , Bert Joris and was part of Chris Joris' experience for a long time . Since 1997 he has released several albums under his own name, most of which contain his own compositions. He toured China with his quintet made up of Laurent Blondiau , Bart Defoort , Stefan Lievestro and Herman Pardon. In 2013 he toured Central Europe in a trio with bassist Garif Telzhanov and drummer Kris Duerinckx.

Since 1993 he has also taught at the Ghent Conservatory.

Prizes and awards

As a student, he received a Special Citation for Outstanding Musicianship from the International Association of Jazz Educators . In 1992 he joined the Belgian delegation for the Jazz Mecca in Maastricht. He and his band won the Prix ​​Nicolas Dor at the Liège Jazz Festival.
