Life

Act

Würthwein mainly worked on questions of the text history of the Old Testament and has developed methods for textual criticism. On the basis of his research, he certified the Masoretic text with a high level of credibility. If this has the same wording as other text witnesses and is an understandable reading, it should be preferred. Only where it is impossible to vote for linguistic and contextual reasons, another text witness should be preferred. In addition, the psychology of the writer at the time should also be taken into account in order not to make careless and inconsiderate text improvements, but to proceed as objectively and scientifically as possible.

Würthwein is the author and co-author of numerous books on the Old Testament.
