Ernst Wilhelm Muller

Ernst Wilhelm Müller (born April 21, 1925 in Gelsenkirchen ; † November 29, 2013 in Oldenburg ) was a German ethnologist .

Life

From 1946 Müller studied ethnology at the universities of Munich and Mainz . From 1951 to 1954 he took part in the expedition to the Ekonda in the Belgian Congo organized by Erika Sulzmann . In 1955 he did his doctorate under Adolf Friedrich . From 1960 to 1967 he was a research assistant to Wilhelm Emil Mühlmann at the Institute for Sociology and Ethnology at the University of Heidelberg , where he completed his habilitation in 1967. After two years as a university lecturer in Heidelberg, he was appointed full professor of ethnology at the Institute for Ethnology at the University of Mainz in 1969 . In 1986 he retired.

From 1969 to 1973 Müller was chairman of the German Society for Ethnology .
