Moshe Gafni ( Hebrew משה גפני; * May 5, 1952 in Bnei Berak ) is an Israeli politician and member of the Knesset of the Charedi ("ultra-Orthodox") party Degel haTora .

Gafni was educated at a yeshiva and then worked as the director of a kollel ( Hebrew כּוֹלֵל; lit. Talmud College). He became a member of the Degel haTora Knesset in 1988 and was appointed Deputy Minister for Religious Services on July 23, 1990 . He held this office until July 13, 1992.

Gafni opposed the Israeli Supreme Court decision to recognize homosexual marriages abroad by stating, “We do not have a Jewish state here. We have Sodom and Gomorrah here. "

However, he was one of the few ultra-Orthodox politicians who condemned the violence perpetrated by Charedim in the 2006 Jerusalem Gay Pride Parade . As a result, he was attacked on June 24, 2010 in Me'a She'arim while visiting a synagogue . The two TYY MPs Uri Maklev and Moshe Gafni had previously visited the Rabbi von Slonim, who lives in Me'a She'arim , and then went to the synagogue to pray. When they first appeared, they were attacked by young extremists from Neturei Karta , who spat on them and hit them with stones, beatings and a chair.

Gafni lives in Bnei Brak, is married and has three children.
