Ernst Wohlwend (born January 14, 1947 in Winterthur ) is a Swiss politician ( SP ). From 2002 to 2012 he was mayor of Winterthur.

biography

Wohlwend grew up as the son of a working-class family in Winterthur. He obtained a teacher's license in Zurich and worked for twenty years - until his election to the city ​​council - as a real-world teacher in Oberwinterthur .

From 1971 to 1992 Wohlwend was a member of the city council of Winterthur. From 1977 to 1984 he chaired the SP of the city and district of Winterthur . In 1979 he was elected to the Zurich Cantonal Council, of which he was a member until 1994.

In 1992 Wohlwend was elected to the Winterthur city council and in 2002 became the first social democratic city president of the city of Winterthur. In March 2012, Wohlwend announced his resignation at the end of September 2012. Michael Künzle ( CVP ) is his successor .

Ernst Wohlwend lives in the Oberseen district of Winterthur , is married and has a son.
