Ernstalbrecht Stiebler (born March 29, 1934 in Berlin ) is a German composer and music journalist.

Stiebler studied composition and piano at the Hamburg University of Music. In 1959 and 1960, during the Darmstadt Summer Courses for New Music , he received numerous suggestions from Karlheinz Stockhausen . From 1969 to 1995 he was employed by the Hessischer Rundfunk as an editor for new music , where he also moderated the program Studio for New Music . In 1989 Stiebler founded the Forum Neue Musik concert series at Hessischer Rundfunk. Between 1983 and 1991 he was also the editor of MusikTexte - magazine for new music . Between 1997 and 1999 Stiebler was President of the Society for New Music .

Stiebler's compositional works are characterized above all by minimalist scarcity, which particularly emphasizes the sound spaces that open up around individual tones and interlock. He wrote mainly for chamber music ensembles.

In 1966, Stiebler received the Hamburg Bach Prize scholarship . In 1991 he took part in the composition seminar Silent Music in the Künstlerhaus Boswil and received an award. Two of his productions for Hessischer Rundfunk received a special prize from the Prix ​​Italia , Piece for Peace by Alvin Curran and Die Blinden by Walter Zimmermann . He has been a member of the Berlin Academy of the Arts since 2012 . Stiebler lives with his wife Ursula Stiebler in Frankfurt am Main.
