Bach Prize of the Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg
The Bach Prize of the Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg is an international music prize that the City of Hamburg has awarded since 1951 (every four years since 1975). It was donated in 1950 by the Senate and Citizenship of the Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg on the 200th anniversary of Johann Sebastian Bach's death . It honors composers “whose works deserve distinction under the high standards set by the award's namesake”. It is endowed with 10,000 euros. At the same time, the independent jury awards scholarships for young composers, endowed with a total of 5,000 euros.
