Live and act
Dyers came from a musical family; both grandfathers, his father and his uncle played guitar, as did his brother Alvin. He was not only influenced by the Kwela Kids , but also by Abdullah Ibrahim . He played in the bands of Winston Mankunku / Chris Schilder and Basil Coetzee ; he was also involved in Monty Weber's musical appraisal of the fate of District Six . In 1990 he toured with Ibrahim, Robbie Jansen , Basil Coetzee, Johnny Mekoa and Monty Weber through Britain, where recordings were also made for the BBC ; Then the album Mantra Mode (1991) was recorded in Cape Town with this line-up for Enja under Ibrahim's name.
With Paul Hanmer , McCoy Mrubata , Sipho Gumede and Frank Paco, Dyers formed the Sheer All Stars , who released two albums ( Indibano , 1999, and Live at the Blue Room ). He also belonged to the Cape Jazz Band of drummer Jack Momple , which released the album Musical Democracy .
Under his own name he released the albums Sonesta, Kou Kou Wa and Best of Errol Dyers and Friends (2003) from 1997 . His quartet includes pianist George Werner, bassist Peter Ndlala and drummer Carlo Fabe. He also worked in a trio with Steve Newman and the singer Angel Rose. The performance at the Cape Town International Jazz Festival 2013 counts as a highlight of his career . Some of his compositions are included on the compilation Cape Jazz 3 , which was published in 2007.
