The attacker Erwin Jung made his debut under coach Georg Knöpfle on January 27, 1963 in a 6-1 home win against VfB Lübeck in what was then the first-class Oberliga Nord. The green-whites competed in the World Cup system with Klaus Hänel , Jung, Meyer, Willi Soya and Gerhard Zebrowski . Striker Meyer scored 37 goals in 28 league games when he reached the runner-up, and Jung made four league appearances with three goals.

Werder was nominated for the Bundesliga for their debut season 1963/64 . Now Willi Multhaup took over the coaching position and with Diethelm Ferner and Theo Klöckner , further competitors came to the Weser for the offensive. On March 7, 1964, in a 3-2 home defeat against Eintracht Braunschweig , Jung made his debut in the Bundesliga. This was followed by his second appearance on March 14 in a 1-0 home win against FC Schalke 04 , before he was able to compensate for Uwe Seeler's 1-0 lead on March 26 with his header in the 13th minute of the game at Hamburger SV thus ensured the Bremen point gain. Bremen played at HSV in attack with Zebrowski, Thun, Jung, Soya and Klöckner. After another outing against VfB Stuttgart , he ended his Bundesliga career with the fifth game on April 4, 1964 in the high 7-0 away defeat at Eintracht Frankfurt . In the championship season 1964/65 of the Bremer Jung did not get another chance.

He then moved to VfB Oldenburg , where he played for five years in the Regionalliga Nord . Under coach Erich Hänel , Jung made his debut in the 3-2 home win against Bremer SV on August 15, 1965 as a half-forward with a goal in the Regionalliga. At the side of teammate Helmut Mrosla , he scored 18 goals in 27 league games and VfB was ranked 12th in the final table. From 1967 to 1970 Emil Iszo was a coach in Oldenburg and Jung said goodbye to the game against FC St. Pauli on April 26, 1970 after a total of 118 regional league games with 63 goals from the second division of the Regionalliga Nord and went to the amateur camp back.

He joined SV Hemelingen in the east of Bremen for the 1970/71 season .
