Erwin Killat

Erwin Killat (born March 20, 1933 ) is a former civil rights activist in the GDR and has been an honorary citizen of Zwickau since 2002 .

In 1987, Killat co-founded the Working Group on the Conciliar Process for Justice, Peace and Integrity of Creation ; With friends from this working group, Killat founded the Zwickau Peace Library in September 1988 . A year later, this contributed significantly to the establishment of the New Forum in Zwickau. Killat is considered to be the organizer of the first peace prayers and leader of the first demonstrations for a peaceful turnaround in Zwickau. Even after reunification and reunification , Killat remained politically active in associations and citizens' initiatives : Among other things, he is committed to right-wing extremism and racism. From 1991 to 1993 he was assessor in the state committee of the party Alliance 90 / The Greens in Saxony .

On October 13, 2009 he received the Saxon Order of Merit on the occasion of "20 Years of Peaceful Revolution " . On December 7, 2017, he received the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany .
