Erwin Lutz (cyclist)
Erwin Lutz (born January 20, 1938 in Zurich ) is a former Swiss cyclist and Swiss champion in cycling .
Athletic career
Erwin Lutz started cycling in 1954. As a junior he was able to win some renowned races such as the Tour of the Four Cantons . In 1957 he qualified for what was then the A-class for Swiss amateurs . A year later he interrupted his career because of his military service. In the spring of 1959 he won the championship in Zurich , in the summer he was Swiss champion in the team time trial with his club RV Zurich . He was appointed to the Swiss national team for the UCI road world championships , but retired early in the race. After winning the season opening race in Lugano in 1960, he obtained a license as an independent so that he could also compete in the professional driver's races. He contested his first Tour de Suisse with the Swiss Tigra team and immediately won a stage (7th overall). In 1961 he won a stage in the Tour of Tunisia , but retired due to illness during the tour. He was also able to record a stage success in the domestic Tour de Romandie . A year later he was at the start of the Giro d`Italia for the Italian team San Pellegrino (under the team management of Gino Bartali ) , later he also entered the Tour de l Àvenir , but could not finish both races. At the end of the season he gave up cycling.
Professional
Erwin Lutz completed an apprenticeship as a bricklayer.
