Erwin Plöckinger

Erwin Plöckinger (born April 22, 1914 in Karwin , Moravia-Silesia , † December 30, 1994 in Vienna ) was an Austrian mining engineer.

Life

Plöckinger came from an old hammer trade family in Karwin. After attending elementary school and high school, he studied chemistry at the German Technical University in Prague. He completed his studies as a Dipl.-Ing. chem. from. After completing his studies in Prague, Plöckinger came to the Alpine Mining Society in Donawitz and during this time studied at the Montanistische Hochschule in Leoben , where he obtained his Dipl.-Ing. mont. acquired. Plöckinger was a member of the Corps Frankonia Prag (1933) and Schacht (1942).

In 1944 Plöckinger became operations manager of the electric steelworks. He took part in the Second World War and returned to Donawitz after a short imprisonment. In 1947 he worked on the creation of the Austrian steel plan. In 1949 he received his doctorate at the Montanistische Hochschule on the metallurgy of chrome in basic steel production processes. In 1950 he became head of the research institute and quality department of Eisenwerke Breitenfeld GmbH, in 1954 head of the metallurgical department of Röchling's iron and steel works in Völklingen, in 1958 head of the smelting metallurgy department of the Krupp central research in Essen and in 1960 head of the research and development department of Böhler Works (VEW).

In 1960 Plöckinger qualified as a professor at the Montanist University in Leoben in the field of "Working methodology for metallurgical research and development tasks". From 1966 he taught there as an associate professor . In 1970 he became a corresponding member of the Austrian Academy of Sciences , in 1977 he was a real member . From 1982 to 1985 he was its president.
