Erwin Scharfenorth

Erwin Scharfenorth (* 1901 in Legnitte , East Prussia ; † March 30, 1966 in Hamburg ) was a German journalist .

Life

Scharfenorth grew up on a 400 year old farm in Natangen . He served as a war volunteer in the First World War . He then studied at the Königsberg Art Academy . With Artur Kutscher in Munich, he devoted himself to theater studies . From 1925 Scharfenorth was a set designer and head of equipment at the Königsberg City Theater . As a freelancer at the Königsberger Allgemeine Zeitung , he became its features editor in 1929.

During the Second World War , Scharfenorth was a war correspondent and most recently a captain in the air force .

In 1948 he became editor of the daily newspaper Die Welt . Shortly after the founding of the Ostpreußenblatt , Scharfenorth took over the culture , local history and feature pages . He played a decisive role in the upward development of this newspaper, of which he was deputy editor-in-chief until his death. He was buried in the Ohlsdorf cemetery .
